Chronic Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Confirmed by Pathological Findings

Abstract
|
|
|
An interesting case of chronic carbon monoxide poisoning confirmed by pathological findings is reported with brief review of references.
At the time of first hospitalization, this patient had shown multiple psychotic symptoms such as sleeplessness, nervousness. shouting, incoherence, tearing out loud, aggressive and destructive behaviors, suspiciousness, etc. And then multiple neurological symptoms were developed such as voiding difficulties, fluctuation of consciousness, vomitings, disorientation, impairment of memory, Parkinson¢¥s gait, athetoid movement of extremities, generalized convulsions, etc. This patient expired on the 67th hospital day of second admission.
The gross pathological findings were congestion and capillary hemorrhage of central white matter and basal ganglia (especially on globus pallidus). And the microscopic findings were capillary hemorrhage and thrombus formation of white matter, death of ganglion cells, and spongy appearance of central white matter.
